The 2nd NATIONAL LEADERSHHIP TRAINING COURSE – CDL 3rd Level (with specialization in music and art),  from 1st to 3rd May 2025, in São Paulo, was a vibrant and unique experience. For the first time, along with the photos, we are including a significant number of videos that capture the depth of the experience and make it easier to reproduce the course.

We recommend that after a superficial contact with the content of this post, you choose another moment, when you are not in a hurry, reflect and even pray together with the course participants, especially during the celebrations of the Light and the Cross and the Celebration of the Fishing Boat.

The celebrations are inspired by the music of the international ecumenical community of Taizé in France. The community is dedicated to peace and reconciliation and is made up of more than a hundred men of various nationalities, representing Protestant and Catholic branches of Christianity. Encounters with young people of various nationalities are the community’s priority.

Taizé has developed a unique style of contemplative music that reflects the meditative nature of the community. Taizé music focuses on simple phrases, usually lines from the Psalms or some part of Scripture, repeated and sometimes sung in canon.

Sung in canon refers to a type of musical composition where the same melody is sung or played by different voices, with a time interval between them, creating a kind of imitation. One voice starts the melody, and the other voices join in after a certain time, repeating the same melody, but with a slight delay.

The videos are grouped as follows:

1 – Workshops:

– 2a Rhythm & Body Percussion Workshop– Antony & Igor

– 2b Singing & Vocal Techniques Workshop – Leo & Natali

– 2c Singing & Musical Instruments Workshop – Junior & Thiago Antony

– 2d Dance & Choreography Workshop – Jeanne & Melissa

 2 – Mantra Training

3 – Celebration of the Light and the Cross:

4 – Celebration of the Boat – Mission of the community: launch the boat into the deep (John 21:1-11)

During the course, the Celebration of the Boat was preceded by individual and then group reflection on the biblical text.

5 – Departure Celebration:

6 – Miscellaneous:

The CDL Musical 3rd Level manual, the songbook ‘Juventude, Canta e Encanta’ and the videos, as well as different workshops are important for training young people to reproduce the course on diocesan and community levels.

At the end of the course, participants received a university certificate.

The course is not limited to music, but also to the whole artistic and creative side of the human being: dance, singing, liturgy, musical instruments, theatre, choreography, celebration, the preparation of the celebratory environment, sacred space and art in general.  Art has an extraordinary capacity to bring people together and strengthen their identity as a people, with rights and duties. That’s why art is often opposed by authoritarian regimes.

The human brain is divided into two parts: the left hemisphere, responsible for the rational, and the right hemisphere, responsible for the emotional and the creative and artistic side. Both are important for evangelising young people and meeting Christ. Loving God as Father should not only be a rational exercise, but also  involve the heart.

The purpose of the course is to empower and channel the creative side of young people and thus bring new energy to youth work.
